Text Box: Cougar Café
The Cougar Cafe is up and running, daily 3:00-3:30, with the help of our eager students.  The 5th-8th graders have been learning the skills of running a small business.  We have reviewed the steps of good record keeping in our logbook.  This week we will focus on good customer service and communicative skills.  Thanks to all of the parents that have so graciously volunteered their time with the students.  We still need home-baked food items.  Contact me, Deborah Joy-Bergman, at 588-8100.
Text Box: Friends of Carden (FOC) is the non-profit organization partnered with the Carden School of Santa Cruz. Friends of Carden provides an opportunity for the members of our school community to raise additional funds for enrichment programs at our terrific school.

Text Box: From the President of
Friends of Carden

Recently I heard a song that’s lyric’s said “The only thing that stays the same is change.” It made me stop, think, and realize that change is constant. People all deal with change differently. Some embrace it, some challenge it and some just go with the flow. But change is constant and it has a way of affecting our lives on a daily basis.
Friends of Carden is now four years old. We’re like a growing toddler. Each year, brings new challenges, accomplishments and goals. FOC started as a non-profit designed to raise funds and support our school. Since the beginning we have worked constantly as a team to provide funds for enrichment activities at Carden. Some didn’t work out quite as planned, but we still managed to work towards our goal.
This year, we have branched out and added seven new committees. Some of the things that the folks on these committees are doing include working tirelessly to raise funds, research long-term spending projects, promote the school and organize volunteers. FOCC and it’s committees are working hand in hand with our wonderful parent body on many projects, both new and old. We’ve already seen some changes, and there’s more to come. We will be trying new events in addition to keeping some old favorites.
Next year we will be five years old. In March, we will need a new FOC President and two new Board Members. Change is constant. Some of our parents will leave the school, new ones will join us and opportunities will continue to present themselves. We encourage you to volunteer and welcome your comments and suggestions. I’m looking forward to meeting you and working with you the rest of the year.

Susan McKay, President, Friends of Carden
